Summer shines a little brighter in the Cariboo, and this year there's an extra reason to visit. From July 16–19, 2026, Quesnel will celebrate the 50th Annual Billy Barker Days Festival, a milestone event honouring one of British Columbia's most cherished community traditions. Rooted in the region's Gold Rush heritage, the festival captures the warmth, hospitality, and pioneering spirit that continue to define the Cariboo.
For four vibrant days, LeBourdais Park becomes the heart of the celebration, offering free live entertainment, family-friendly activities, artisan vendors, midway rides, community dances, and a colourful parade that brings the city together. The festivities also include the 57th Annual Quesnel Rodeo, where generations of western tradition come alive through thrilling competition, skilled horsemanship, and authentic cowboy culture. On Sunday evening, the celebration concludes with a spectacular drone show that illuminates the night sky in a memorable grand finale.
Billy Barker Days is also the perfect starting point for exploring the remarkable history and natural beauty of the Cariboo. Stroll the charming heritage streets of Wells, where galleries, studios, and local artists flourish amid breathtaking mountain scenery. Just beyond lies the world-renowned Barkerville Historic Town & Park, where stagecoaches roll along wooden streets, costumed interpreters recreate the excitement of the Gold Rush, and visitors can try their hand at gold panning in one of British Columbia's most iconic historic destinations.
Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or an extended road trip through the rolling ranchlands of central British Columbia, Billy Barker Days offers an unforgettable blend of history, adventure, and genuine small-town hospitality. It's a celebration that honours the past while creating new summer memories for visitors of every generation.
